Baptism

Baptism is the ritual of initiation into Christ’s Church and through this ritual one is forever united to Christ and made a part of Christ’s body. The service consists of a profession of faith (the Apostle’s Creed) and vows of affirming Christ as Lord and Saviour and the renunciation of Satan and evil, followed by ritual washing with specially blessed water. In the case of infants being baptized, Godparents or sponsors make the profession of faith and vows on the child’s behalf. If you are interested in baptism for yourself, your child or grandchild, please contact Father Keith Voets at 718-528-1891.

Baptisms may be scheduled for any Sunday except for Sundays in Lent and take place as a part of Sunday mass.  Private baptisms are only considered under special circumstances.

Marriage

At The Church of St. Alban the Martyr we understand Holy Matrimony to be a physical and spiritual union, entered into within the community of faith, by mutual consent of heart, mind and will, and with intent that it be life-long.  We are committed to treating equally all couples presenting themselves for the rite of Marriage. Our commitment to the sacrament of marriage being celebrated within the community of faith informs our policy.

Typically, preparation for weddings at St. Alban the Martyr takes from 4 to 6 months, allowing time for scheduling and planning as well as for pre-marital counseling for couples with a member of our clergy staff.  For more information, or to begin planning your wedding, contact the office at (718) 528-1891 to make an appointment.

Please review our Marriage FAQs Page for more information.

Funerals

Lord Jesus Christ, by your death you took away the sting of death: Grant to us your servants so to follow in faith where you have led the way, that we may at length fall asleep in your likeness; for your tender mercies’ sake. Amen.

When a member of the parish dies or is near death, the church office should be notified immediately 718-528-1891.  The clergy and staff are ready to be of assistance at any hour and are willing to be with the family while burial arrangements are made at the funeral home if their presence is desired.
